Jack's Tune/Milestones
On these recent studio tracks in the modern jazz idiom, I'm joined by some of my other playing partners. My pal Leco Reis (from Brooklyn Brazil Bop) is heard on acoustic bass. Rob Blumenthal (my former boss at Boy's Harbor Conservatory many years ago!) is on drums. On alto (seems I'm always together with alto saxophonists these years) is one of my newest friends and partners - Benjamin (Jacob) Drazen. We played a few jobs together and decided to document our activities.
Surra
From my Brazilian basement tapes the earliest is Hermeto Pascoal's composition "Surra," which I harmonized and arranged. This features my good friends Sue Terry on flute and Todd Isler on drums.
One Note Samba
This classic Jobim tune was done with Arthur Elyachar, my partner in the late '90s. We used his Tascam. I've always enjoyed listening to it over the years.
Voo da Mosca
Next we have an early attempt to record my "cross string" arrangement of a famous
valsa choro. This is "Voo da Mosca" by Jacob do Bandolim, with Robert DiPietro on drums and Patrice Blanchard on electric bass.
Loro/Samba Novo/Duda No Frevo
"Loro" by Egberto Gismonti (here played as a
baião), "Samba Novo" by Durval Fereira and "Duda No Frevo" by Sino were part of a recording with my group "Afinidades" adding Rob Curto on accordion to Patrice and Robert.
Vera Cruz/His and Her 7th Major Minor Crisis
"Vera Cruz" by Milton Nascimento and my tune "His and Her 7th Major Minor Crisis" are a part of a recording with Leco Reis on bass, Sue Terry on alto sax and flute
with Robert DiPietro on percussion.
